High Reliability NAT Installations

If you are building a high-reliability site or using your NAT in an unattended facility, you may wish to add the PC Hardware Watchdog Timer card available from B&B Electronics. It costs about $70 USD, and will reboot your NAT in the event of a lockup of hardware or software. This card is supported by the NAT software.

B&B Watchdog Card Setup

You will need to strap the I/O address of your watchdog timer card to 0x3A0, using the dip switches on the card.

The card comes with a cable that connects from the card to the reset connector on your motherboard. The cable from the reset switch on your PC's front panel needs to be disconnected from the motherboard and reconnected to the watchdog timer card. This lets you continue to use the front panel reset switch (if it exists), as well as lets the watchdog timer card reset the systems.

The instruction book that accompanies the card will lead you through the installation and test process.
