There are a lot of questions to answer when you need an Internet connection. Network
Safety has prepared this "menu" of tasty connections for your needs. Please browse
around and see which one fits your appetite! We're ready to provide you the parts,
assistance and training to make it happen in a safe and secure way.
The Dishes
Most people think of the Client Applications when they
begin wanting access to the Internet. No matter what your other Internet needs, you
and your people will use these applications the most. Here are examples of some of the old
and new clients you will be using:
- Telnet provides terminal connections to host computers.
- FTP facilitates the transfer of files.
- Email is free mail to anyone in the world.
- World Wide Web accesses the fastest growing part of the net.
- Archie searches the archive sites for files for you.
- RealAudio gives you up-to-the-minute information you can hear.
- Worlds Chat lets you interact with others with ease.
Everyone needs clients running on workstations or shared hosts, but without the
server applications, the clients will be useless. You may not
plan to offer services to the outside world. Other than email, most people don't. You may, however,
wish to offer services to your personnel. Examples of popular internal services that sometimes are
shared with outsiders are:
- World Wide Web is a pleasant way to distribute your internal information.
- Email encourages comfortable dialog between people.
- Usenet News is a forum-based bulletin board system.
- FTP lets you archive interesting files for your people to fetch.
